Growth

Growth (2015–2016) is a contemporary dance performance created and staged in Armenia and Georgia, built upon the philosophical and spiritual stages of Mazdaist wisdom found in classical Zoroastrian texts.

This performance received a medal at the 2016 Armenia International Mime Festival.

The dancers move through physical metaphors inspired by these texts: the emergence of light from darkness, the confrontation with ignorance, and the gradual strengthening of inner clarity. By grounding contemporary dance in Mazdaist philosophy, the performance creates a bridge between ancient Iranian thought and modern artistic expression.

Mazdaist wisdom

Mazdaist wisdom and classical Zoroastrian texts describe the first stages as awakening to Asha, the cosmic truth and order that governs both the physical and spiritual worlds. From this foundation, the seeker learns to discern between the two primal forces: Spenta Mainyu, the constructive and life-giving spirit of Ahura Mazda, and Angra Mainyu, the destructive and chaotic counter-force.

Wisdom begins when a person can recognize these energies within their own thoughts and actions, choosing the path of growth over harm. This moral clarity becomes practical through the triad of Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds, which transforms inner understanding into ethical living.

As the seeker progresses, they gain a deeper knowledge of creation itself, the structure of the universe, the purpose of humanity, and the spiritual consequences of every choice, as described in the Bundaheshn and expanded through the philosophical reflections of the Denkard.

The higher stages of Mazdaist wisdom involve strengthening the inner self through discipline, patience, and mastery over destructive impulses, a theme emphasized in the Minu-i Khirad (“Spirit of Wisdom”), also.

As the seeker cultivates clarity and resilience, they move toward unity with Vohu Manah, the “Good Mind,” one of the Amesha Spentas who embodies divine intelligence and pure perception. This union represents a state where human consciousness aligns with Ahura Mazda’s wisdom, allowing the seeker to perceive truth without distortion.

Ultimately, Mazdaist wisdom culminates in an understanding of Frashokereti, the final renewal of the world, where good triumphs over evil and creation is restored to perfection. In this final stage, wisdom becomes not only personal enlightenment but participation in the cosmic mission to bring the world toward its destined harmony.
