MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage)
A gentle, rhythmic technique that helps support the natural movement of lymph fluid in the body.
Using light, precise strokes, the therapist encourages fluid flow, reduces swelling, and promotes a calming, restorative effect on the nervous system. It is comfortable, slow, and deeply relaxing.
MLD is a structured system with specific hand movements and sequences. Core elements include:
Skin stretching — very light, directional movements that stretch the skin without sliding
Rhythmic pumping — gentle, repetitive pressure to stimulate lymph vessels
Circular and spiral motions — to encourage lymph flow toward major drainage areas
Proximal-to-distal sequencing — clearing central lymph nodes before working outward
Decongestive pathways — redirecting fluid toward functioning lymphatic regions
MLD is not deep tissue work. Pressure is intentionally light because lymph vessels lie just beneath the skin.
